Food is Free is at the Benicia Public Library Weds evenings 5-7 pm. Their website lists a bunch of other Solano County and East Bay locations. Meet Heather who started Food is Free by expanding on the Free Little Library concept during covid, and encouraged others to do the same. Solano County Superviser Monica Brown is also there, and she is a fireball, full of information.
Plus it's in our library, which is full of free resources (and tools).
-you dont have to be local. All they ask is number of people in your household, and of those how many are kiddos, and how many over 65. Everyone is really nice.
The library also collects clean plastic grocery bags for them, so if you have a stash, drop them off. The funding should go to food, not buying bags!

Great job, Benicia! 👏👏👏 A few months after regulators cracked down on Valero's Benicia facility for serious pollution violations, city leaders voted to establish stronger oversight over refinery emissions

Attention #Benicia residents: Support industrial safety and citizen oversight TODAY 3/4!
The Benicia City Council will hear comments on a proposed Industrial Safety Ordinance (ISO). ISOs are vital to communities concerned about the risk of hazardous chemical releases, accident prevention, air monitoring & transparency between the community and industry.
If you're a Benicia resident, please voice your support at the meeting! Instructions for joining by Zoom are in the meeting agenda (item 15A): https://baykeeper.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Benicia_Agenda.pdf
The Benicia Public Library has boxes of COVID tests available for free.
2 boxes per person, per day, free, no questions asked, at the counter. You don't need a library card.
