Ben Hatke is my new favorite author (he does children’s fantasy)! His books speak really well to cultural issues today, using metaphor through fantasy. Just love his stuff! I’ve spent 6 months digging into children’s fiction and read over 600 children’s books, and have found nothing like his work! He is original with a hint of Studio Ghibli. If you’re looking for something light and fun, that sparks imagination, with a good #DEI message… check out “Julia’s House for Lost Creatures.” Also “Nobody Likes a Goblin.” His other stuff is great too.

I love Ben Hatke’s graphic novels ! I discovered his work about a decade ago with Zita the Spacegirl and I really loved it. His newest work, Things in the Basement, is to be published in a few days. As usual, a perfectly normal kid finds himself in an extraordinary situation and lots of strange and exciting things happen.

The art in this book is *spectacular*, styled a bit like those ultra-busy #AlJaffee *#MADMagazine* spreads, or the #MossEisleyCantina, or the wild alien scenes from #BenHatke's YA classic #ZitaTheSpaceGirl kids' graphic novels:

But *Justice Warriors* is grosser, busier, and more frenetic than any of them. As Bors describes it, they created "a chaotic mutant-infested city that tops the most sensory-overloading cities in all of comics and animation."
