An Arlington man stole the pickup that had just hauled back the Arlington/Belmont crew team's racing shells from a meet Saturday night, then left behind a wake of destruction until he was finally stopped and arrested in Belmont.

The man drove the pickup and the trailer down the bike path between Spy Pond in Arlington and Alewife.

Cambridge Police report that the pickup and trailer was then "involved in several hit and run crashes at multiple locations resulting in non-life-threatening injuries and significant property damage."

On my way home today, I was passed by a #BelmontMA police officer on a bicycle, going the other direction on Waverley St. He looked very chipper, and smiled and waved at me and a family walking on the sidewalk. I think that's the first time I've seen a cop riding a bike on a typical residential road (not patrolling a downtown area, or detailed to some special event). It was a nice "imagine a world more like that" moment.

Not a great road for cycling, either (narrow lanes and shoulders, mediocre surface), but quieter than others during rush hour.
