Climate indexes do not tell the entire truth.

I'm stunned to see the **complete lack** of #seaice still in the #Bellinghausen Sea. (Even had to check if something went wrong with the data...).

Our regional sea-ice index for the combined Bellinghausen- and Amundsen Seas does not show any extreme values due to the correspondingly large sea-ice extent in the Amundsen Sea.

Maps show sea-ice concentration and its anomaly for the first two weeks of April.

Status of the #January #seaice in the #Antarctic:

- Sea-ice extent was clearly *record-low* for January this year.
- Large negative sea-ice anomalies are seen in #Bellinghausen, #Amundsen/#Ross, and even an open-water region in the eastern #Weddell Sea
