Parents sue Houston ISD in federal court for allegedly using their child’s preferred pronouns
While HISD does not have any policies related directly to gender identity and preferred pronoun use, several Houston-area school districts — Fort Bend ISD, Cy-Fair ISD and Katy ISD — have passed controversial policies regulating the usage of pronouns and requiring that parents be informed if their child identifies as transgender or asks to use pronouns that differ from their gender at birth.

The district is working on a policy that would prevent students from accessing their cell phones during emergencies, in the interest of safety, after a recent string of unsubstantiated threats of violence as well as incidents involving weapons. Parents are pushing back against the idea.
Houston’s Bellaire High School to update yearbook review policies after controversy over ‘Times of Palestine’ page
An article in the yearbook featured one student's Palestinian-centered perspective about the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas without including an Israeli perspective, which prompted backlash within the school's culturally diverse community. The Bellaire principal has offered to provide revised yearbooks to students who want them and also says the school's review protocols for student publications will be expanded.
