@ukrailways

No, it isn't; but there's deceptive propaganda from the hooligan gangs and extremists that it is, when in fact what was targetted was *incitement to riot* and *conspiracy*, which are crimes (the former under common law for centuries, and statutory since 1986), and the rioters themselves were arrested for things like arson, burglary, and assault. On video!

So beware of a rabbit hole of false propaganda, when asking such a question.

Oh look!

The Larry The Cat account on MastodonApp.UK (@Number10cat) has just woken up.

Well, we know what has brought this particular piece of #TwitterMigration back to life.

I pointed out the other day that there are accounts suddenly waking up in local timelines across the major nodes in the U.K..

This one, at least, I do not have to nudge towards getting followers, although xe is still short on the hashtag front. (-:

This photo could only have been taken in #belfastriots #belfast

@franksting @ianb

One can also suspect that from a far shorter distance. (-:

@Silversnapples

By the way, do you think the idea of a bunch of English hooligans rocking up to #Glasgow, to shout about how foreigners should get out of England, to be as daft an idea as I do? (-:

@[email protected] Let me get this straight: The gangsters plan to do what they've been doing, driving in a bunch of outsider English hooligans from around England, to loot & pillage local shops, damage homes & places of worship, beat up locals, and destroy public institutions, all of the while shouting (even if only as a pretext but nonetheless) about how foreigners are evil scum & don't belong in England; … … and they've decided to do this in Glasgow‽ Are they insane? #UKPolitics #Scotland #Glasgow

If it helps:

As far as I can tell your neck of the woods is like #Birmingham and the West Midlands.

There's a lot of misreporting by #BBCNews and others of these #EnglandRiots as "across the U.K.", but they weren't in Brum last night *again*, they haven't been in Scotland nor in Wales, & failed to appear in #Brizzle.

Not only are they (except for #BelfastRiots) not outwith England, they aren't even in all of that.

Today, I'm highlighting another giant hole in this "U.K." that #BBCNews is still reporting right now: Birmingham The 2nd largest city in the U.K. by population, and yet the closest that the Birmingham Mail has is "a far-right rally that failed to take place" in Bordesley Green. https://birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/telegram-group-banning-non-whites-29682304 I'm going to look around a bit more, but I haven't seen #Wolverhampton, #Dudley, or #Walsall in the riot news, either. @[email protected] #UKPolitics #Birmingham

@cazabon

No, this isn't new to Putin.

Violent thugs were using #soccer as a pretext in the 1970s and 1980s, just like they are pretending that looting, pillaging, arson, and racially aggravated GBH are "political protests" now. They were high profile news then, too.

And there's a fairly shameful history of British newspaper reportage from that era, likewise.

@cazabon

Yes, and no, I think.

Yes, putting out a false message that 100 English towns and cities are going to be attacked is a move right out of the Cold War spy drama playbooks.

Yes, there are some fairly obvious connections from this to #NigelFarage and xyr ilk and from them to Putin.

But …

@Tooden

You make a good point and I notice that some Mastodon.Scot people and others have already invented the #EnglandRiots hashtag.
