#BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice Está al mismo nivel que la primera parte gracias al guión tan random y, espcialmente, a los actores ✨
What also got me thinking is that if they went with the original canon, Richard is implied to have killed himself. He works as a civil servant. And my wife and I weren't the only ones to catch that, we searched the web.
Which is a really interesting thought, very real. From what we know, his character is also drawn to 'the dark' and horror, so it might not be too far off. Plus, Lydia and him splitting up.
It might just be an oversight, or there might be another reason he works where we does, but definitely an interesting implication.
Yeah, I think I'm still trying to make sense of Winona's character and all the years we didn't see her in.
Sure, she was at the center of the movie, but I also felt they used her more like a device to drive everyone else's stories forward rather, or more, than her own.
She felt very broken to me - which does make sense with the stories they came up with, but I didn't feel like I could connect it well to the original writing: This is even hinted at by Catherine's character who asks where the 'obnoxious little goth girl' had gone.
Winona's performance was great, of course, I think my quarrel is with the writing.
I think I wanted to see more 'badass Lydia grown-up'. But yeah, it doesn't always go that way in life either.
We finally got around to watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice yesterday evening.
Turns out we really liked it and it wasn't a disappointment at all. Probably Tim Burton's best work in over 15 years.
Unsurprisingly, I loved everything about Catherine O'Hara's character return. I felt a bit odd about Winona's character having a lot less self-confidence, but life can do that to you, especially with her abilities.
The movie felt pretty smooth, Burton stuck to what he does well, everything felt upgraded but still true to the original.
That they turned Beetlejuice into more of a hero than a villain actually felt interesting and rather wholesome. As wholesome as Beetlejuice as a character can go.
I was worried about Jenna Ortega's involvement at first but she didn't bother me at all.
Monica Bellucci provided some gorgeous eye candy as well.
All in all, a very well-rounded movie that I might've even enjoyed more than the original (first watch, at least).

There's a scene where the protagonist loses control of her bike, and after a sequence of near misses, she finally crashes through a fence. The bike and rider are finally stopped by a large tree.
Thus, the film introduces the love interest - he's sitting in the tree in a treehouse, so - their eyes lock.
Spouse: "Thats a heck of a meet-cute'
Me: 'More like a tree-tcute?'
