C’è chi ama gli hotel di lusso e chi, invece, sogna un appartamento tutto suo, magari con vista mare, cucina attrezzata e quella libertà che sa tanto di casa… anche in vacanza. Ed è proprio a questa filosofia di viaggio che è dedicato l’Independent Accommodation Day, una ricorrenza sempre più amata da viaggiatori e host di tutto il mondo.

L’Independent Accommodation Day si celebra ogni anno il 24 marzo. Una data perfetta: siamo alle porte della bella stagione, quando iniziamo a pianificare weekend, viaggi primaverili e vacanze estive.

È una giornata internazionale dedicata a:

In pratica, tutte quelle soluzioni alternative agli hotel tradizionali che offrono un’esperienza più autentica, flessibile e personalizzata.

Negli ultimi anni, questo tipo di ospitalità ha conquistato milioni di viaggiatori, anche grazie a piattaforme come Airbnb e Booking.com.

Questa giornata è stata lanciata nel 2018 dalla piattaforma eviivo, un’azienda specializzata in software per strutture ricettive indipendenti.

L’obiettivo?

👉 Celebrare l’ospitalità autentica
👉 Sostenere chi offre esperienze uniche, spesso a conduzione familiare

La prima celebrazione è stata quindi nel 2018, e da allora è cresciuta anno dopo anno, diventando un appuntamento globale.

• valorizzano il turismo locale

Soprattutto in regioni come la Puglia (eh sì, proprio qui 😉), Toscana e Trentino, dove l’ospitalità indipendente è un vero fiore all’occhiello.

Random email of the day: Southern NSW Local Health District informing me that as we supply *rainwater* for consumption at our guest cottages, we require signage to that effect at the cottages and a Quality Assurance Program (essentially a risk register) lodged with NSW Health.

I'm all for regulation and safety, but this seems a touch heavy-handed and unnecessary. It's rainwater stored in concrete tanks. It doesn't get much cleaner.

Anyway, here I am doing said Quality Assurance Program and ordering the approved signs.

We just had a family of 7 (!) through our large cottage - parents and 5 kids from 15 to 4 months. While you accommodate them, you hope they are capable of keeping the place clean. These folks left it as good as anyone ever has. We need to clean for the purpose of readying for the next guests tomorrow, but you’d barely know they’d been here.

Props to those people for having their shit very together, because managing a family that size is nontrivial.

South Gloucestershire man jailed after booking Mumbles B&B to meet “underage girl”

49‑year‑old Rodolfa Galvao, from Yate in South Gloucestershire, had been communicating online with what he thought was a 14‑year‑old girl. In reality, the account was a decoy operated by a volunteer group.

Galvao arranged to meet in Swansea in July and was challenged by members of the group when he arrived at a city centre bowling alley carrying a rose and a bar of chocolate. Police were called and he was arrested before he could check in to the Mumbles accommodation he had booked for two nights.

A search of his phone revealed sexually explicit messages sent to the decoy account.

At Swansea Crown Court, Galvao pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child under 16 following grooming. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years, and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.

“He poses a danger to children”

Detective Constable Rebecca Brain of South Wales Police said:

“Rodolfa Galvao believed he was communicating with a child and still sent explicit sexual messages to them, even going to the lengths of arranging to meet them.

It is clear that he poses a danger to children, and it is fortunate that the ‘child’ at the other end of the conversation was not real. He is fully deserving of a spell in prison.”

The court heard Galvao had no previous convictions. Judge Paul Thomas KC said there was “only one reason” why the defendant had booked the Mumbles hotel room and that he showed “no real remorse, only self‑pity.”

Support for survivors

South Wales Police said they recognised how difficult it can be for survivors of sexual abuse to come forward, but urged victims to seek support.

“We hope cases like this one provide reassurance that victims will be listened to, treated with dignity and respect, and will be supported throughout the judicial process,” a spokesperson said.
