I’ve seen this spot in the woods countless times, in every season and in all weathers. Whenever the dog needed a walk, we’d usually pass by here. This photo was taken in February eight years ago. Back then, I’d only had my camera for a couple of years and was experimenting more than I do now.

I chose this because of today’s #PhotoSuggestion, ‘The journey is the destination’. That certainly applied to this path, and a walk in the #woods or a #hike still does for me today. By the way: this photo once won a competition and was featured in the town’s small-town calendar - but maybe there was only one application from the village I lived in ;-).

The tree stands alone on a gently rolling meadow and almost appears like a person who has consciously positioned themselves for a portrait, as if nature itself were awake and attentively gazing out into the world.

Urwaldsteig.

This is a photo from one of our spring hikes last week, even though the leaves on the ground make it look a bit like autumn.

Around Lake Eder, the Urwaldsteig trail winds through a forest that has been left on its own for years. Large sections of this trail pass through beech forests just like this. It’s brilliant – we were almost alone in a vast area.
