May must not have gotten the memo. It's 38º, with 70mph winds and snow blowing off the Chugach Mountains behind the house making it shake and rattle like a constant mid-level earthquake. Just lovely. #Alaska #Anchorage #BearValley #NotSpring
What a difference a week makes. The snowshoe hares are turning brown quickly. I have no idea who keeps throwing carrots into our backyard ;)

1st Black Bear of the year around 10:15pm. Dark and overcast, so had to really crank the ISO on the camera. Having a nice back scratch on the phone pole just below our bedroom. #Alaska #Anchorage #BearValley #Bears #BlackBear
Our backyard Snowshoe Hares are just starting to change into their spring colors. #Alaska #Anchorage #BearValley #wildlifePhotography

What a night! A very strong, active aurora around midnight. This one was a lot of narrow, vertical streams and ribbons, so I shot a lot of vertical shots showing the aurora reaching from the heavens. Click on an image for full-screen.

5am this morning. I think I actually missed the strongest part of the show even earlier, but wow, what an intense, active display. I think the strongest I’ve seen this winter. Click on an image for full-screen and cursor over images for captions.
