This piece is inspired by the fairytale, Jack and the Beanstalk.
Jack’s tale has had a lot of iterations, and it has shifted and changed over time to omit different elements depending on the era in which the tale is being told.
A lot of folks consider Jack to be a thug, a simple irresponsible child burglar, but one important fact that is often left out of the tale is the nature of the Giant that ultimately gets killed. But in some versions it clearly states that the Giant is not liked in his cloud kingdom and has stolen most of his treasures from others. some iterations specifically mention that his bedroom is littered with the bones of victims he’s eaten doesn’t say much for him either. Pretty horrible stuff done by a not-so-empathetic giant.
So is Jack actually an irresponsible kid? Or might he be considered a type of Robin Hood, evening the odds and dishing out the Karma that the Giant deserves?
Hm.
