One thing I don't understand about Government's paranoia about #jury trials and nullification, is that they aren't and never were instant "get out of jail" card for #defendants (even if some jurors may be sympathetic).

For instance out of those liberating #beagles from an #animaltesting lab, many suspects were sent before #CrownCourt - some got acquitted but others found guilty, and it seemed to be a complete lottery as to what happened.

I was on jury service myself in 2023, and I admit the amount of disruption it caused to my life made it harder for me not to look for reasons for finding defendants guilty (unless it was something like eco/left political protests/animal rights)

(In the end I was discharged without being put on a jury as the Court couldn't find any shorter cases)

Animal refuge groups say they have agreed to buy nearly 1,500 beagles at a Wisconsin dog breeding and research business that was the site of a violent clash earlier this month between activists trying to break in and police who repelled them with tear gas and pepper spray. Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy said Wednesday that have entered into a confidential agreement with Ridglan Farms to buy 1,500 of the facility’s roughly 2,000 beagles for an undisclosed price. It’s unclear what the plans are for the remaining dogs.

"The first 300 dogs were taken from Ridglan on Friday, with more scheduled for removal over the next week. The animal groups have set up a staging area with play yards in Wisconsin, where the dogs are being vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered and prepared for transport, Simmons said. Big Dog Ranch Rescue has already started moving dogs to its location in western Palm Beach county, Florida."

Activists Attempting to Save Dogs from Medical Experimentation Met with Tear Gas in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, police fired tear gas, pepper spray and rubber-coated steel bullets at hundreds of animal rights activists on Saturday as they attempted to rescue about 2,000 dogs from a facility that breeds beagles for medical experimentation. The crackdown by Dane County sheriff’s deputies left scores of people injured, including one protester who had two teeth knocked out. Twenty-five people were arrested. Protesters were attempting to enter a property owned by Ridglan Farms, which agreed last fall to surrender its state breeding license and stop selling dogs to other laboratories by July 1 as part of a deal to avoid prosecution on animal mistreatment charges. A state judge found Ridglan Farms likely broke Wisconsin animal cruelty laws by housing beagles in brutal conditions, performing surgeries without anesthesia and leaving wounds untreated, along with other violations. Ridglan Farms still holds federal research credentials and plans to continue breeding beagles for its own experimentation. Last month, activists successfully entered the property and freed about two dozen beagles, who were subsequently adopted.
