I'd like to feel sorry for these people that are losing their homes. But it looks like they voted against their own self-interests in 2016, 2020, and 2024. If you vote for the party that doesn't believe in #climatechange despite all the evidence, then you should happily believe that that's not really your house going into the ocean.

Um, so, as much as I have fond memories of my youth [mis]spent at #SalisburyBeach, this is just a waste of money. The amusement park is long gone -- replaced by condos and unaffordable housing. And they did this already, and the storm surge just washed it away! Tear down the houses and restore the marshes. smh!

History of Salisbury Beach

Salisbury Beach History

December 19, 2022

"Salisbury is a historic town that was first frequented by paleo-indians and Native-Americans for thousands of years and eventually settled by English colonists in the 17th century.

"The beach and salt marsh itself was used primarily as hunting and fishing grounds by the Native Americans and then as pastureland for the colonist’s cattle until the 19th century when it suddenly became a popular summer tourist destination.

"The following is a timeline of the history of Salisbury Beach:

"8500-8000 BP: Paleo-indians build an earthen burial mound about 6-8 feet high at a place called Morrill Point, somewhere near the mouth of the Merrimack River in Salisbury.

"Pre-colonial Era: The #Penacook tribe travel down the Merrimack River from Concord, New Hampshire in the summers to fish and hunt at the #wetlands at Salisbury Beach."

Sea level rise and storm surge in Galveston are making that coastline unsustainable for human residents. Why are they still building new condos? Why are they still wasting federal funds to fortify the shoreline? Yes, we have to adapt to it. Does that mean wasting money and effort for luxury condos on the beach? We must start prioritizing what matters here and that's not vacation homes.

As Galveston faces rapid sea level rise, developers plan new condos

At a time of fast rising seas, the ocean wants this barrier island back. But humans, who have held their ground here for over a century, are planning new condos.

These houses are at risk of falling into the sea. The U.S. government bought them.

The National Park Service spent more than $700,000 to buy two homes in Rodanthe, N.C. at risk of falling into the sea – as some have in recent years due to erosion. The homes will be torn down and turned into public beach access.
