HMCS Rimouski was a #RoyalCanadianNavy #FlowerclassCorvette which took part in convoy escort duties during the #SecondWorldWar. She fought primarily in the #BattleOfTheAtlantic. She was named after #RimouskiQuebec.

Commemoration of the Canadian casualties in the Battle of the Atlantic (1939-1945), in Ottawa. Over 4,500 Canadians died during this battle.

In Canada, this commemoration takes place on the first Sunday in May, which in 2025 happened to coincide with Dutch remembrance day on May 4th -- the two minutes of national silence at 08:00pm throughout The Netherlands.

The Canadian forces played a pivotal role in the liberation of The Netherlands in 1945. So I was grateful to be able to show my respect on May 4th in Canada, when encountering this commemoration during my Sunday morning bike ride through Ottawa.

Gaston Pettigrew, who served during WWII's Battle of the Atlantic, was hoping to receive 100 birthday cards in time for his 100th birthday on April 11. He received more than 1,700, which are now plastered throughout his residence.
