#Oxford #today is the last chance to see the #BateCollection of #MusicalInstruments in its historic premises in St. Aldates, open from 2-5. And to play their #theremin or #serpent. Closed from tomorrow until they reopen in the new Schwarzman building some time in the summer. Staff told me they won't have more space there, but will use more efficient display technology, such as drawers.

recorded on the harpsichord by William Smith (London, 1720 or earlier), which could very well have been owned by G.F. #Handel, as seen in this Mercier portrait https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/39/Retrato_de_HandelFXD.jpg/1024px-Retrato_de_HandelFXD.jpg
