Today’s workday: taught a couple Alexander technique students. Then practised some (about a million it felt like) hymns for a church service next Sunday. In Dutch. Then a recorder lesson and one more AT-lesson. After dinner rushed through two parts of Mozart op35 on bassoon, just before the recorder group arrived to practise for tomorrow’s students’ concert. It was not a boring day!

Agreed to fill in in a community orchestra nearby for a concert end of May. I’m glad they’re not doing this movement in pro-orchestra tempo because it’s brutal enough to practise as it is.

Combining playing bassoon and singing in the same day is somewhat challenging it turns out. For singing my face, tongue and throat have to as free as possible. Bassoon playing tends to cause all kinds of little tensions to creep in.

Phew, playing modern bassoon after a longish break is real workout for my belly muscles! All the other instruments I play have less resistance, though then again they demand other things from the breathing apparatus.
