Visually astonishing, on the visual part this might be my favourite Kubrick. Some critics call Barry Lyndon pretentious, but supposing that is the case, is it a disadvantage? I believe it's not. Let good movies pretend, let them be somehow pretentious. Because they are works of true authors. So besides this, Barry Lyndon is also a very spellbinding and rewarding film.
