This is sad. Author Barry Hughart has died. In the 1980s, he wrote three well-loved (to me) fantasy books about "A China that never was," around two fabulous characters, Master Li and Number Ten Ox.

If you can find the books, give them a read, or at least read the first one, "Bridge of Birds", and get ready for a hilarious, fantasy detective story.
