I think the disconnect between those who recognize #MargotRobbie's brilliant acting in the #BarbieMovie and those that don't--those who are responsible for the award nominations--is that there is a #sexist conflation of young, conventionally attractive, blonde #women with #Barbie the doll. I think that, to a certain type of person steeped in #sexism, quite possibly unexamined, the view is, "How could Robbie possibly be acting? Aren't women just like that?"
Of course, women aren't "just like that" and Robbie did a marvelous job disappearing into the role of an iconic doll that should at least be recognized with a nomination. But because stereotypes about women and #misogyny still exist, some people can't see the amazing effort that she put into #Barbie2023.
Is this the worst thing to happen to women? No, it isn't and hardly will be. Does it still sting? Yes, absolutely!
