In the end, I feel this worked out better than I was expecting.
- I got a nice kit out of it.
- I have an idea as to how I want to attack the details of the much larger/expensive MG Barbatos kit.
- The paint I used for the metallic black is a basic craft paint cut w/ Createx 4012 Reducer. It's holding up far better than expected despite being uncoated.
All in all, a good outcome for what started as an expendable test piece. = )
SD (Super Deformed) Gundam kits are, by their nature, exceptionally small and relatively cheap. This made for the perfect base to test out paints & paint ideas. It was a lot of brush painting but I need the practice.
Bonus: The SDCS line of kits are just fun models to make. = )
The basic plan was for this to be a paint test.
I was lucky enough to be gifted a Master Grade (1/100 Scale) Gundam Barbatos kit. I love the design but I wanted it to look more royal than the base vers. Enter the much smaller & easier to find SDCS Lupus Rex. I could test ideas on it w/out much worry. = )

I kept things "simple" in that I didn't radically change the colors. I shifted them down to a metallic dark blue and a darker red. The yellow was hit with an antiqued metallic gold mix I use on stuff.
