#trapping is inhumane. It betrays the respect, coexistence, and compassion we owe the wild—something Indigenous peoples have always understood—because #wolves are family, and we share this home with them, and we need #wildlife to thrive for our own survival too.

But all that changed in 2021, when Max ventured outside the park for the last time.

Not far from the border, a steel #trap snapped around his foreleg. In great pain, Max struggled, but he couldn't get away. Hours later, a human appeared and killed Max with his gun, even though Max was defenseless and wore a #Yellowstone tracking collar.

The biggest tragedy? Max's killer was #GregGianforte, the governor of #Montana and a passionate #TrophyHunter.
