The GLA has disclosed correspondence between Mayor Sadiq Khan and bus manufacturers under the #Environmental Information Regulations. The material includes letters from Wrightbus and Alexander Dennis in 2025 concerning #UK bus #manufacturing and zero-emission fleets. Wrightbus urged continued support for domestic producers, highlighting its #Ballymena base, growth to nearly 2,400 staff and its hydrogen and electric buses operating in London. The Mayor replied that investment in zero-emission #buses benefits jobs across the UK and welcomed Wrightbus’s role in expanding London’s fleet.

Alexander Dennis provided a consultation update on proposals to consolidate UK operations in Scarborough, putting up to 400 jobs at risk in #Scotland. It called for fresh orders, potential furlough support and procurement reforms to strengthen UK manufacturing.

#Nottingham City Transport is set to upgrade its long-distance Pathfinder route with six new Wrightbus StreetDeck Ultroliner double-deckers. NCT representatives recently visited the Wrightbus factory in #Ballymena, Northern #Ireland to view the buses, which will operate between Nottingham, Burton Joyce, Lowdham and Southwell. Built to NCT’s high specification, they feature free Wi-Fi, USB charging, improved seating, space for two wheelchairs, a table on the upper deck and enhanced accessibility, including hearing loops and clearer next-stop displays. The ULEB-accredited vehicles meet stricter emission standards than the 2014 models they replace, cutting NOx emissions by 80% and reducing particulates. NCT said the cleaner, quieter buses would deliver a better passenger experience. Wrightbus, founded in 1946, employs 2,300 people. The manufacturer said the new models offer low noise and emissions where full zero-emission operation is not yet practical.
