Egg number 2 in clutch number 2 has arrived! Jackie laid her second egg just before her bedtime tonight, right on time for her regular schedule of laying them 3 days apart. Hooray for another chance at a successful season this year for Jackie & Shadow.

All eagle babies seem to hit a point where they just love to hang their heads over the side of the nest and watch what's happening out in the world before they're big enough to go explore it for themselves. The siblings in the winter park nest live stream have started taking naps with their heads over the side lately, but the big one (the darker brown one in this photo) especially loves to hang so much of its body over the edge that I keep worrying it'll tip over and fall right out one day :/

I took a walk through the Union Bay Natural Area at the Center for Urban Horticulture recently, and brought my long lens along 'just in case'. It's a good location for spotting birds of all sorts and, though we're not into migration season yet, I thought I might get lucky.

This pair of Bald Eagles were in the wetlands portion of the natural area, perched in two different trees near each other. Given the time of year and their difference in size, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a mated pair with a nest in the area somewhere. I hope to see them next time I'm there, and I'll be bringing that long (and heavy, oof) lens with me for sure.
