Saying goodbye to my zigzag sakura(Prunus incisa kojo-no-mai), which has succumbed to verticillium wilt. I’ll dearly miss it’s incredible lichen collection. We’ve had it for well over a decade and coddled it through four big moves and many waves of pests.

The park next door installed a neighborhood compost system handled by the city.

People use it a lot and every now and then we get the compst from them.

I signed up with their mailing list to get a message when it's available, because last time I almost missed it.

Went for a walk with Mellie and brought a 20L bag with me. Filled it up and brought it home.

Mixed half of it with 10L of coco peat and used the most of the other half on my tomato pots.

Still have some left.

I really like #compost. It smells so good and gives a boost to plants almost immediately.

I'm still new to growing currants and these looked ripe to me, but very much weren't.

I thought I had bought a redcurrant but even unripe they are clearly blackcurrants.

I'm so anxious to see how these black tomatoes turn out.

I've been waiting patiently for them to be ready and TBH have no idea how to see it, I just touch them to see if they are soft, but they are all solid Iike a rock.

I've about 30-40 of them , from walnut to green bean size and they seem to stay at walnut size and don't grow any bigger.

Watering it with a 1L milk bottle (have a small hole in it), twice a day and it seems to be healthy and growing taller and have new flowers.

Didn't realize that the drain holes of this bucket were all blocked and the roots of my tomato were choking.

Even after opening up the holes and getting rid of excess water, it did not recover.

I'm hoping that it might come back later and waiting for these tomatoes to rip.

Ahhh, my #dahlia blossomed! My very first balcony one. 🤩 got a small root from my mum's extensive collection 🧡

Today's harvest from the balcony.

Accidentally broke a branch of the cherry tomato and have a bunch of green ones on my hand..

Still can't harvest the black tomatoes. They are not ready.

This is the second batch of jalapenos, these are from the hydroponic unit.

Strawberry flood is now producing 3-4 kg per week (!!!!) - about four large metal bowls. This regular incoming amount is not fitting in the freezer.

14 window boxes on the balcony railings, about 50 plants or so plants, many different varieties.

You’d go broke buying this quantity from the shops.

Need ideas to eat more of them, as we don’t go through that much jam or cake. So far, I’ve made ice cream, milk shakes, piled them onto breakfast cereal, and eaten them chopped with cinnamon for dessert most nights. Planning pancakes and snail scones this weekend.

Handed off one load to parents, but the fridge is already full again.

Any savory ideas? Our salad/lettuce isn’t ready for harvest yet, but we do have some ripe cherry tomatoes (already!)

Balcony Garden 2026 says hello. 🥰

This year we have returning awesome trio (Basil, Thyme and Oregano) and two great premieres: Balcony Tomatoes, which I am very looking forward to see how they will come out aaaand lovely Dahlia, which I never had before.

The scent of herbs is wonderful and looking at all the plants brings a lot of happiness into my heart.
