Os Afro-sambas (Brazilian Portuguese: [uz afɾoˈsɐ̃bɐs]) is a 1966 studio album (that should not be confused with the album of the same name and different artwork recorded live) by Baden Powell and Vinícius de Moraes.
In the mid-1960s Vinícius was fascinated by an LP of samba de roda songs with candomblé influences from Bahia. Baden Powell had also gone to Bahia and heard the songs of the Bahian candomblé. From this mutual enchantment with samba and religiosity found in Bahia, the Afro-sambas project emerged. The eight songs (11 in the live show) have a rich and unique musicality: a mix of candomblé and umbanda instruments (like atabaques and afoxés) with timbres common to Brazilian music (agogôs, the flute, and pandeiros) - Wikipedia

Vinicius & Odette Lara by Vinicius & Odette Lara released on Elenco in 1963.
"...Aloysio de Oliveira, could hardly make a better choice than putting together the great Vinícius de Moraes and actress/singer Odette Lara. Vinícius’ lyrics were essential in the birth of the Bossa Nova genre. Legendary Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell also contributed his immense talents to the effort. The recording also features arrangements by another essential musician in Brazilian’s popular music: Moacyr Santos. Vinícius de Moraes and Odette Lara make a wonderful team..." - Elemental Music

Happy Founder’s Day!
Celebrating the incredible legacy of Lord Robert Baden-Powell and the life-changing impact of Scouting. From its humble beginnings on Brownsea Island in 1907 to a global movement of over 57 million members, Scouting continues to inspire, challenge, and empower young people around the world.
I dabbled in Cubs and Scouts in my youth but never very serious but, as an adult, I've found it to be the perfect blend of community service and youth work.
I'm proud to be involved with Scouting and hope to continue for many years to come.
Os Afro-sambas (Brazilian Portuguese: [uz afɾoˈsɐ̃bɐs]) is a 1966 studio album by Baden Powell and Vinícius de Moraes.
Considered a watershed (the original live recording) in MPB for fusing various elements of African sound with samba, Os Afro-sambas was recorded by Baden Powell, Vinícius de Moraes, and Quarteto em Cy in 1966.
In the mid-1960s Vinícius was fascinated by an LP of samba de roda songs with candomblé influences from Bahia. Baden Powell had also gone to Bahia and heard the songs of the Bahian candomblé. A Vontade by Baden Powell, released on Elenco in 1963.
Paul Bowler wrote for Record Collector Magazine:
"Decamping to Bahia in north east Brazil, Powell studied the Afro-Brazilian traditions of Candomblé, Umbanda and Capoeira, seeking ways to combine their complex, heavyweight rhythms with his rarefied classical guitar work. The resulting set of recordings make for a stark, minimal, yet beautiful melding of styles brought to life by a superlative set of compositions written alongside fellow visionary Vinicius de Moraes.
...Consolação, would become a bossa standard, and is given its first airing here in its most naked form: an instrumental with complex guitar playing the irrepressible tune around brushed afro percussion.."

Do the Bossa Nova with Herbie Mann (subtitled Recorded in Rio de Janeiro with the Greatest Bossa Nova Players) is an album by American jazz flautist Herbie Mann recorded in 1962 for the Atlantic label.
AllMusic awarded the album 4 stars with its review by Scott Yanow stating "Rather than play a watered-down version of bossa nova in New York studios (which was becoming quite common as the bossa nova fad hit its peak in 1962), flutist Herbie Mann went down to Brazil and recorded with some of the top players of the style. ...the music is as much Brazilian as it is jazz. This 'fusion' works quite well" - Wikipedia
