Flicker Update: First sighting of a youngster at the opening!

I'm still amazed that the parents chose this spot right by the street and by the mailbox.

I'm not sure what Mr. Oriole is doing, but he appears to be a jolly fellow.

Raptor rapture!

Sitting on the patio, chilling. Merlin app going. Hear a bird, sounds like it's in the tree above.

Look at the Merlin app: #Osprey

I'm doubtful. Lean back and look up. Yep, it's an osprey at low level, circling and calling.

Cool! Not enough time to get the long lens for the iPhone. But I can clearly see the marking.

Finches have finally discovered the bird feeder.

Baby bird sounds. The racket emanating from the Northern Flickers’ nesting cavity was audible from a distance of 20 feet / 6m or more. (18 seconds of audio: the staccato, buzzy, grunting sounds are coming from the cavity.)

And the cinnamon vines on the stump are growing like crazy in the tropical heat and humidity of the last few days.

Northern Flicker. It's been about 5 weeks since the pair of flickers started excavating their nesting cavity. And 3 weeks since I covered the caved-in hole in the roof with the plate and brick.

If things are progressing well, there are some hatchlings now, and they will soon be crowding the opening at feeding time.

Note: The stump is getting a messy green covering on the side and top: Cinnamon Vine!
