@a_blahaj ooooh, tricky question, one i have asked myself a lot over the months.

i am expert at neither, but prolly now have slightly more experience running Kinoite, given i put it on Lappy's SSD some/several months ago [posting from it atm, actually].

#Kinoite
- wins wrt me having solved basically all my needs on it now... #QEMU ✅, #Distrobox [incl Arch, damnit, sigh] ✅, #BackInTime ✅, #RustDesk ✅, #Flatpak with User not Root authority ✅, App Layering ✅, etc.
- loses in that i can only get its boot menu to offer me two versions, despite me seeing three each time i do rpm-ostree status -v.

#Kalpa
- wins in that its boot menu offers me several versions, which by definition provides more robust rollback capability IMO; Dev explained to me that layering is not a thing in Kalpa coz ... see his quote below
- loses in that almost every time i have installed it, when i enable Flathub it mandates root permission, ie, i have to install & update all subsequent Flatpaks after giving root permission [iirc one installation correctly made it User not Root, but all the rest "went wrong"].

there is no "layering" on kalpa, but you can absolutely attempt to install your vpn software via 'sudo transactional-update pkg in packagename' if it's in the repos, or 'sudo transactional-update run zypper in whatever.rpm' if you're downloading an rpm from a vendor.

Kalpa isn't image based like KDELinux or Kinoite, you'll be literally installing the rpm into the "immutable root" of the systemFwiw, back to my KDELinux whinge:
As i was making a coffee, mulling over my least-worst options now [i really really would like to keep it; i have put so much time into familiarising myself with it, & finessing my setup, & overall i have now found various workarounds for almost all the issues that initially troubled me, but the broken videos is almost now a bridge too far], i suddenly began giggling at my silliness. It is an atomic, duh, ergo, its boot menu offers me five versions... so maybe all i need to do is boot back a few days to get good video again? Shall try it later today... 🤞

Las aplicaciones para respaldar archivos, como #BackInTime, son muestras ejemplares de ingeniería de alta precisión. Desarrollarlas debe ser un verdadero reto, quienes se dedican a ellas nunca recibirán reconocimiento suficiente.

Justo hoy, que estaba gestionando mis respaldos porque descubrí que había omitido excluir dos directorios con información de tipo temporal con gran volumen, quedé gratamente sorprendido de que hubiera una forma (no muy intuitiva pero existente) de deshacerse de ellos en la unidad de respaldo, recuperar espacio y no romper el resto de la historia.

@aks many thanks. i must try again, coz this would be really handy to understand & use. atm my three most desired / critical apps i'd love to get working "natively" in my #KDELinux, are

- #QEMU / #KVM
- #Windscribe VPN

I suppose i am going to need to try to get their source-code & compile them. i have done that now & then over the years in Arch [with other apps, not these], but so far i've not tried any compilation in KDELinux... i don't even know if it can. 🤔🤷

I was looking at some rules on my router and I came across two rules, currently commented out, created on 17 March 2020. Back then, my two FTTC lines performed differently: the Vodafone one was generally better (theoretically 200 Mbit, actually a bit less) while the TIM one was limited to 100 Mbit. I had (and still have) a rule that, when the primary connection reaches 120 Mbit/sec, it switches and routes new connections to the other line.
During that period, however, the Vodafone line was capped at 15 Mbit/sec in the evenings, while the TIM one wasn't - probably to handle streaming loads, as everyone was in lockdown.
I had a rule that took care of switching them at 19:30 and restoring everything to its original state at 00:30.
It worked very well and seamlessly for as long as it was needed.

Finding that rule still there took me back five years in an instant.
