My friends and I have tried to find the origin of the "Disappointment" moniker without much success.

What I can say now that I've been there is the "mountain" is pretty disappointing as such... barely visible from the lakes, no big cliff faces or knobs. Contrast this with the bluff above Rose Lake.

Several different categories here: flowering plants, #moss, #lichen and ????.

We saw the "transparent spittle" thing in several places. One hint is the #sphagnum #moss. After the trip I realized it might be a #SlimeMold.

There were "hit and run" #bears taking random, non-food packs on #RoseLake. We saw a bear cub on the #GunflintTrail on the way up, but no sign on #DuncanLake where we camped. #BWCA #Camping
