ESP-IDF v6.0 framework adds support for ESP32-C5 and ESP32-C61, preview for ESP32-H21 and ESP32-H4

Espressif Systems released the ESP-IDF v6.0 framework a few days ago with stable support for ESP32-C5 and ESP32-C61 SoCs, as well as preview support for ESP32-H21 and ESP32-H4 low-power wireless microcontrollers. The framework also implements a new ESP-IDF Installation Manager (EIM) to make the ESP-IDF installation easier, relies on the low-footprint Picolibc C library, adds security and tooling updates, as well as a few Wi-Fi enhancements, and the ability to update the bootloader over the air. Here are some of the ESP-IDF v6.0 highlights: ESP-IDF Installation Manager - Unified cross-platform tool to simplify the setup process for ESP-IDF and compatible IDEs. The #EU needs to pass a law to make it illegal to sell any computing device with a locked #bootloader, so that third-party developers can always load alternate operating systems.

I'm in the US, but I'm literally surrounded by devices that are still perfectly functional, but obsolete because the manufacturers refuse to provide them with software updates and refuse to allow me to load other operating systems.

The US will never pass such a law, but the EU could, just like with USB-C. #FOSS

@[email protected] It will fully support using other operating systems including users making their own builds of GrapheneOS. It's part of our hardware requirements. We'll likely be able to make hardened builds of firmware and drivers which can be released in an official way for easy builds without needing to extract anything from the GrapheneOS or Motorola OS factory images.
