In deze voorstelling van het kwartet Vientos del Sur, onder de bezielende leiding van zangeres Ester Veldhuis scheert het publiek in een vogelvlucht langs de kusten van Zuid-Spanje voor vurige Flamenco, over de daken van Lissabon vol melancholische Fado, tot diep in de hartslag van Latijns-Amerika.

Door de oorspronkelijke teksten in poëtische Nederlandse vertalingen te verweven met spoken word, wil Vientos del Sur het publiek deelgenoot maken van universele thema’s als verlangen, heimwee, ‘saudade’ en levensvreugde. Een mozaïek van klank en woord zal zonder taalbarrière de luisteraar in vervoering brengen tot de laatste snaar geklonken heeft.

Het kwartet bestaat uit musici die hun sporen ruimschoots hebben verdiend. Zangeres Ester Veldhuis vormde haar stem via gospel, blues, een flamencokoor en ze was popster in Bolivia.
‘Ester zingt met haar Latijns-Amerikaanse temperament de mooiste melodieën die bij elk nummer rechtstreeks binnen komen in hart en ziel’ (Club Kazoo). Ook gitarist en componist Alain Labrie werd geprezen voor ‘zijn bijna voelbare onderhuidse spanning waarmee hij elke compositie noot voor noot opbouwt naar een totaal onvoorspelbare climax (Lust for Life, 2024).

Het Limburgs Dagblad noemde Franklin Heilijgers de ‘beste flamenco-bassist van de Benelux’. In het samenspel legt hij een fundament vol groove en muzikaliteit. En Master-percussionist Olaf Keus, die op vele internationale podia stond, maakt het feest compleet met Latin, Braziliaanse en Afrikaanse ritmes.

In this performance by the Vientos del Sur quartet, under the inspiring leadership of singer Ester Veldhuis, the audience takes a bird’s-eye view of the coasts of southern Spain for fiery flamenco, over the rooftops of Lisbon filled with melancholic fado, and deep into the heartbeat of Latin America.

From the vast Argentine pampas to the steamy clubs of Havana, with every note the distance between what you hear and where you are fades away.

By interweaving the original lyrics in poetic Dutch translations with spoken word, Vientos del Sur aims to share universal themes such as longing, homesickness, “saudade,” and the joy of life with the audience.
A mosaic of sound and word will transport the listener, without any language barrier, until the very last chord has been struck.

The quartet consists of musicians who have more than earned their stripes. Singer Ester Veldhuis honed her voice through gospel, blues, a flamenco choir, and she was a pop star in Bolivia. “With her Latin American spirit, Ester sings the most beautiful melodies that touch the heart and soul with every song” (Club Kazoo). Guitarist and composer Alain Labrie was also praised for “his almost palpable underlying tension, with which he builds each composition note by note toward a completely unpredictable climax” (Lust for Life, 2024). The Limburgs Dagblad called Franklin Heilijgers the “best flamenco bassist in the Benelux.” In the ensemble, he lays a foundation full of groove and musicality. And master percussionist Olaf Keus, who has performed on many international stages, completes the celebration with Latin, Brazilian, and African rhythms. Nederlands onderaan The Norwegian Thea Paulsrud is a vocalist, storyteller and artist known for captivating audiences with powerful vocal performances and with thought-provoking lyrics. Her music is rooted in traditional soul, with a striking edge and melodic nods to the jazz standard repertoire. In spring 2025, Paulsrud released her debut full-length album _Lay With Me For A While_, praised by critic Øyvind Rønning as "a highly successful marriage between soul and jazz." The material from this album forms the core of her live performances. On stage, Paulsrud is joined by an exceptional band of musicians. Not only are they remarkably tight as an ensemble, they also shine as distinctive soloists. Together, they create a playful, acoustic soundscape that moves both the dance floor and the heart.
With a natural charisma that instantly draws smiles from the audience, Thea Paulsrud promises a concert experience that offers both joy and reflection. Independent pop and soul with a "dirty blues" sound

Independent singer-songwriter KELS blends influences from jazz, pop, and soul into her signature "dirty blues" sound. While she grew up in Pittsburgh and established her musical foundation there, she has been operating out of Atlanta in recent years. Her raw vocal style and personal songwriting are shaped by influences such as Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, and Amy Winehouse.

Operating without management or a record label, KELS completed a 52-show US tour funded entirely by fans. In 2024, she opened the Atlanta Jazz Festival for André 3000, followed by a second independent tour through the Northeastern United States. Backed by endorsements from artists like Timbaland and Big Boi, she is currently working on new material for the release of her EP Dirty Blues Princess.
