There's many of us marginalized women, who are actively doing a lot of the community work that our governments had repeatedly promised & have failed to deliver. We can't keep waiting for our governments to do the right thing. We can't stay idle when so many of our community members/fellow citizens needs are not being met. Several of us started networking & linking our networks to build up some community assistance teams to deliver a variety of essential community services to the peoples.

Together, we are stronger & can help more folks.

Dental Hygiene Clinic — Support Network for Indigenous Women and Women of Color

Support Network for Indigenous Women and Women of Color

From our #BIPOC #sisterhood #nonprofit org, #SNIWWOC in #VictoriaBC - Please boost.

Our newest program is here to give BIPOC #menstruators the freedom to be a part of essential activities and not be excluded due to a lack of #MenstrualProducts.

Did you know that up to 70% of menstruators have missed school or work because of their period?

Or that nearly a quarter of Canadian menstruators and a third of menstruators under 25, have reportedly struggled to afford menstrual products for themselves or their dependents?

As an all-women, BIPOC-led and BIPOC-comprised organization, SNIWWOC understands the needs of our community and we are focused on improving their health from a holistic and integrated service model.

With efforts to be #EcoConscious, this program will provide applicants with one #reusable #MenstrualCup to support their period needs.

The #MenstrualFreedom program is funded by The Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, we thank you for your donation!

Eligibility:

Black Women, Indigenous Women, and Women of Colour, Transgender, Non-binary, and Two-Spirit community menstruators.

Must make less than the low-income cut-off line, see the table(on website).

The article has finally been published. My surname is spelled incorrectly on the photo & I've asked for a correction.

[ Support Network for Indigenous Women has now grown from its all-volunteer roots in 2014 to a full-fledged social enterprise with seven staff members in B.C. and Ontario.

It runs events in Vancouver and Toronto as well as virtual programming for participants throughout Canada.

Brown said more than 2,000 people received help from the support network last year. ]

Being a Black or Indigenous woman means being at the receiving end of a whole host of societal assumptions and biases, says the support network’s founder

#SNIWWOC #FoodProject: Your food, your choice.

According to Statistics Canada (Dec 2020), approximately one in seven Canadians (14.6%) were living in a food-insecure household in May 2020. #FoodInsecurity is also a cause associated with poorer nutrition as well as a variety of physical and mental health issues.

SNIWWOC is providing a #FoodSecurity program for #LowIncome #RacializedWomen including #transgender and #TwoSpirit community members. This program is intended to offset costs of monthly #groceries, not to cover all costs.

Eligible clients will receive the decided amount of gift cards to one of the grocery stores. We are committed to supporting vulnerable women in our community, such as single mothers and newcomers who are sometimes isolated.

About — Boma Brown

Boma Brown

I'm a part of this local #nonprofit #BIPOCWomen #CollectiveCommunity 💗

SNIWWOC is a #Canadian non-profit organization committed to the #empowerment of #women. We operate from a holistic and integrated service model that addresses the social, cultural and political realities of immigrant and indigenous communities. Our work is informed by a commitment to reproductive justice. Reproductive justice recognizes that struggles for sexual and reproductive rights is not a singular issue. It has to be linked to wider struggles against oppression (racism, sexism, colonization, immigration rights, income, education, etc). These intersecting oppressions can limit a person's ability to have control over their body.

Our Mission:
To support BIPOC women, youth, and children to take greater control of their lives. We strive to provide culturally appropriate services in different languages, and all our programming is developed and delivered by #WomenOfColour.

Our Mandate:
To work against barriers that limit women and girl’s access to healthcare and full reproductive choice using food, art, and education.

Connection:
We know social isolation, perceived or not, has a negative impact on health outcomes - this isolation is particularly hard on #BIPOC women. We aim to lessen this isolation by creating intentional spaces where women of colour can connect and heal through food, art, and education.

Programs:
We have a variety of free programs such as a dental hygiene clinic, counselling, peer support, groceries, online yoga, and domestic violence support groups that may normally be inaccessible to women of colour due to low-income or isolation.

Education:
We provide women of colour with education and information on how to navigate Canada’s healthcare system.

Support:
We support and advocate for Indigenous women, Black women, immigrant and refugee women and women of colour, and connect them to appropriate support streams.

Events:
We host regular events across the country with the aim of raising awareness and building community. These include a monthly dinner series, regular workshops, music celebrations, an annual neighbourhood festival in Quadra Village, and much more.
