"William Lee Tate pleaded guilty to accessing, possessing and transmitting child pornography between October 2019 and February 2022. He was sentenced on Oct. 24 to two years less a day, followed by three years of probation. He was ordered to surrender himself into custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre by Oct. 31.

However, on Nov. 6, Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers said Tate was wanted on a B.C.-wide warrant and that he may be fleeing to the Interior.

Tate is described as six feet tall and about 225 pounds, with blue eyes. He is balding, with some grey hair and may be driving a grey 1997 Chevrolet Astro van with the B.C. licence plate EW7008."

"Tate apologized to the court for breaking the law but claimed he was collecting the materials for research purposes, which Morley found to be untrue.

Born in the United States, Tate moved to Canada because he opposed the Vietnam War. He worked as a teacher, a researcher at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, a longshoreman at the Vancouver Port and he was a founder of the Georgia Straight, according to the sentencing decision."
