Out of the bottle, Jahrhundert-Bier produces a strong creamy-white head resting on a pool of clear gold. Receding, there remains a blanket of lacing on top of the surface.
Swirling and sniffing, we recover notes of rich earth, cooking herbs, minor lemon citrus, and some baked bread.
Sipping, many of those same characteristics transfer along with notes of honey in the finish. Overall Jahrhundert-Bier has a medium mouthfeel, some alcoholic warmth, and a lingering cloying character. Overall, a balanced sip and perfect for days in the region when the faux summer isn't on our doorstep.

Carl S. Gutekunst (old acct)Weihenstephaner Vitus is the gold standard in this category, but Ayinger's entry is distinct and deserves a place, too. Strong carbonation, lots of wheat and malt character, “hazy” before it was trendy (unfiltered, and serious yeast!), lots of fruit (especially apples); some spice; a real delight.
No bitterness (IBU 10), only a hint of hops. Not for IPA drinkers. 😄
