It was hot out in the sun today, so I got tired quickly. Still, it was great to make so many people happy at the protest. A couple with unicorn suits saw me just as I saw them, and we all laughed an ran to each other and 'hugged' briefly. It was so happy.

On the way out, I saw this ballot box and thought it was a perfect photo op for my axolotl self.

Exhausted but happier now.

I placed the lights and shadows to create the illusion of the subject coming forth from the canvas. The warm earthy tones of its surroundings and the wood contrast the rich blues of the axolot beautifully. I painted this study in oil with great care and heartfelt love for the animal, which you can see in details like the pattern and the fine frills of the gills.
