Structures of the Imperialist Assault on Iran

After the martyrdom of Hajj Qassem Soleimani in 2020, an Iranian cleric made a tongue in cheek remark that Iranians would need to kill Spongebob in order to achieve an equal revenge for the brutal murder of one of the main architects of the entire Axis of Resistance’s military capabilities. The comment, now in the light of the assassination of Seyyed Ali Khamenei, rings true beyond its memetic qualities. The leaders in Iran are statesmen, religious leaders, and scholars, the stature of which do not exist in the United States; Ali Larijani, for example, had written four books on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. All of these leaders, who have refused the safety of bunkers and special treatment, suffer the same fate as their people.

The skies over Tehran were black with poisonous fumes from the joint American-Zionist attacks on Iran’s oil facilities, signaling that the imperialists have entered a qualitatively new stage in their brutality. If the bombing murder of more than 150 little girls in Minab was not enough to whet their appetite for destruction, the gassing of an entire city certainly makes sense by their logic. No longer are we hearing refrains of ‘save Iranian women’ or ‘regime change’; the only refrain that remains is ‘exterminate the brutes’. Yet, for anyone with clear vision and a mind which is not colonized and owned by Zionist television media, it is clear that Iran–despite the catastrophic loss of civilian life–have military capabilities which were vastly underestimated by the imperialists, and has carefully selected their targets in order to inflict the most damage to imperialist interests in West Asia. Americans don’t have heroes, all that’s left are brands, the image of toughness and worse yet they wear their strategic interests on their sleeve. Because the Iranians understand this, they know exactly which brands to tarnish and which strategic interests to hit with their advanced missile arsenal. This essay does not seek to be the most updated or real-time analysis, because in such a fast-paced war that would be a Herculean task, but rather this essay seeks to understand how Iran has been able to build deterrence, maintain its structure of alliances, and to provide an antidote for any defeatist thought which lingers.

While the American, Zionist-owned news media tries to tell us that Iran is sending missiles willy-nilly into the Gulf states and Occupied Palestine, the reality is much more clear for those with eyes to see it. Even supposedly left-of-center outlets like Mehdi Hassan’s “Zeteo” news agency entertain analysis which uncritically talks of Iran sending missiles to the Gulf states, without mentioning that they are US military installations which are hit. European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, among others in the West, has expressed ‘solidarity’ with the Gulf monarchies. In a joint European Union – Gulf Cooperation Council (EU-GCC) statement, Iran’s attacks are seen as ‘unjustifiable’:

“The Ministers strongly condemned the unjustifiable Iranian attacks against the GCC countries which threaten regional and global security and called on Iran to cease immediately its attacks…”

As early as 400 BCE, Sun Tzu put what the Iranians are currently doing into words: “…what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy’s strategy”. The GCC countries are the backbone of petrodollar recycling schemes where US dollars used to buy oil are recycled back into the US economy in the form of government bonds and investment in military and tech companies which then allows the Federal Reserve to continue printing away our purchasing power at home. What’s more, these sclerotic monarchies are also the rear guard for the Zionist colony; in the politico-military realm, they host American military bases and economically the Abraham accords have facilitated large volumes of trade between the GCC and the Zionist colony. Socioculturally, cities like Dubai serve as an ideological mirage which allows the average stone-faced blue light victim in America to view it as a haven of hotels, casinos, complete with lurid orientalist fantasies about the women ‘available’ there. This aura of safety, insulation from the supposed ‘savagery’ of the rest of West Asia, and bubble of Western consumption habits is all but gone due to the Iranian precision missile strikes. Of vital importance to the entire imperialist strategy, as I have mentioned in previous articles, is the tech economy, particularly data centers. So when we see the Iranians hit two Amazon Web Services data centers in the Gulf, it is not an attack on civilian infrastructure, rather it is an attack on a nerve center of the entire imperialist economy and network infrastructure. As for the Iranian missiles hitting the Zionist colony, these too have destroyed the facade of “Israeli” invincibility and the entire Zionist security doctrine. Military bases, radar stations, air and naval bases, command and control centers, as well as economic interests such as the Tel Aviv diamond district have been hit with Qadr, Khoramshahr, and Khaibar Shekan missiles. So when Kallas and other American lackeys declare their ‘solidarity’ with the GCC countries and “Israel”, it is because they know that the Iranian strategy is effective, and is actually hitting targets which form an integral part of the imperialist architecture of control in West Asia.

What of the response in the American government? Contradictions continue to become antagonistic in the MAGA camp, with former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene criticizing the war as ‘Israel’s war’ and even citing the bombing of the Minab school girls. The ‘Israel’s war’ narrative has rhetorical benefits but it totally misses the woods for the trees in the sense that the genocide in Gaza has exposed to the whole world that “Israel” and the USA are one large settler colonial homunculus where the US is clearly the senior partner. In the case of MTG and other conservatives, blaming “Israel” fits into the great replacement and other conspiratorial lines of thought. Per usual, the Democrats are totally flaccid, and represent one wing of a bipartisan policy which calls for more wars, and more de-development of the global south. Their latest protest is that Trump ‘does not have a plan’ for the war. While this is certainly something to consider, the hyperfixation on the subjective character of Donald Trump without a structural critique of how he came to power has achieved nothing for the Democratic Party. The refrain of “orange man bad” is the extent of their politics, and for all their whining, they are leading the global working class like lambs to the slaughter.

By way of a conclusion, the importance of naming the structures which shape this war cannot be overstated. Iran has been under siege for 47 years for a number of reasons. Firstly, the Islamic Revolution of 1979 did not shy away from allying itself with the revolutionaries of the global south, such as those in the DPRK, Burkina Faso, Nicaragua, Cuba, Grenada, and most importantly, Palestine. Relatedly, Iran’s pledge to support Palestinian resistance until liberation has been and continues to be a thorn in the side of imperialist designs for West Asia. To this end, after the western backed Iraqi invasion, Iran has forged a path of self-sufficiency. This self-sufficiency has led them to become a major industrial power and a center of accumulation capable of challenging Zionism and imperialism.

Through this independent path, the entire Axis of Resistance has been forged as a force which is capable of liberating the region, as we see through more than 60 waves of attacks on the imperialist infrastructure in 23 days at the time of writing. While “Israel” is pushed further into a corner, and the U.S. is desperate for any shred of legitimacy or signal of success, the Arab-Iranian region is once again plunged into a war where the outcomes are limited. Victory for the U.S. and the Zionists means a totally de-developed Iran, split into rump states incapable of resistance. Victory for Iran is deterrence, and the ability to return to the negotiation table with bigger demands such as the reduction of western military installations in the region. Until then, the fronts in Lebanon, Iran, and Palestine are opened, and working people suffer the greatest costs.

Resistance Forces Launch Massive Assault on Imperialist Forces

The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon – Hezbollah carried out multiple operations early on Tuesday, targeting zionist occupation forces, military positions, and settlements inside Lebanese territory and northern occupied Palestine.

The operations are being carried out as part of Operation Devoured Straw to defend Lebanon and its people, in retaliation for zionist attacks that have targeted numerous Lebanese villages and cities, including the Southern Suburb of Beirut.

On Tuesday, March 17, the Resistance announced seven key operations targeting zionist forces and armored vehicles in southern Lebanon and near the Lebanese-Palestinian border.

Israeli gatherings targeted

  • At 12:30 am, an assembly point of zionist soldiers at al-Assi site opposite Mays al-Jabal was targeted with a rocket salvo.

  • At 2:00 am, a second Merkava tank in the Taybeh project area was struck with a guided missile, bringing the number of tanks hit since last night to 5.

Illegal settlements pummeled

In response to the forced displacement of the Lebanese people from their homes and towns across the South, Bekaa, and Beirut’s southern suburb, the Islamic Resistance issued evacuation warnings to northern settlements, ordering their settlers to retreat 5 kilometers from the Palestinian-Lebanese border. The settlements of Kiryat Shmona and Nahariya have also been declared as war zones, coming under direct Resistance fire.

  • At 8:30 am, Hezbollah targeted the illegal settlement of Nahariya with a rocket salvo.

Operations under Khaybar 1

On Tuesday, the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon announced the launch of Khaybar 1 operations, signifying a new phase of escalation as part of the battle against the occupation. The launch was marked by simultaneous operations consisting of dozens of rockets targeting illegal settlements and key Israeli military sites.

Zionist media reported non-stop sirens across the occupied north, as well as continuous rocket launches from South Lebanon.

  • At 8:30 pm, Islamic Resistance fighters launched large rocket barrages at the illegal settlements of Kiryat Shmona, Metula, Malikiya, Dishon, Avivim, Kfar Blum, Ramot Naftali, Zar’it, Shtula, Even Menachem, and Beit Hillel.

Scope and objectives of the strikes

The Resistance emphasized that all operations targeted military objectives only, in contrast to zionist attacks, which strike civilians.

The operations aimed to:

  • Deter zionist aggression across southern Lebanon and northern Palestine.
  • Prevent further escalation against Lebanese towns and people.
  • Demonstrate precision capabilities with simultaneous rocket, drone, and artillery strikes on multiple military targets.

Zionist settlements and strategic sites targeted

Hezbollah strikes extended to zionist settlements and military bases near the Lebanese-Palestinian border:

  • Rocket attacks on Kiryat Shmona and Nahariya were declared war zones.
  • Precision rocket salvos on Haifa naval base and the Shayetet 13 maritime unit in Atlit.
  • Multiple troop assemblies in northern settlements targeted, including Jadida Mays al-Jabal, Maroun al-Ras, and Khirbet al-Manara.

The Islamic Resistance confirmed on Monday that 23 operations were carried out, including strikes on soldiers, vehicles, tanks, and strategic positions deep inside Lebanese territory and northern occupied Palestine. In total the Resistance carried out 51 operations today.

The Resistance emphasized that these strikes targeted military objectives only, unlike zionist attacks, which target civilians, stressing that the operations are meant to deter Israeli aggression and prevent further escalation against Lebanon.

Iran launches wave 61 of True Promise 4 to avenge Larijani

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced wave 61 of Operation True Promise 4, launching a large-scale missile attack targeting more than 100 military and security sites in the occupied territories.

According to the IRGC, the new wave focused on Tel Aviv, described as a central hub of the zionist military and security activity. The attack reportedly included advanced missile systems such as Khorramshahr-4 (multiple-warhead missile), Qadr missiles, Emad missiles, and Kheybarshkan missiles.

The statement detailed that the operation was carried out under the slogan “O Abu Abdullah Al-Hussein,” and in retaliation for the killing of Security Chief Ali Larijani and his companions in a US-zionist aggression on the country overnight.

According to the statement, the targets were successfully struck due to what it described as a collapse in the entities multi-layered air defense systems, allowing missiles to reach strategic locations.

Sirens and explosions across Tel Aviv

Early Wednesday morning, air raid sirens blared across Tel Aviv and the central occupied territories following the detection of a new wave of missiles launched from Iran. Zionist Channel 12 reported dozens of consecutive explosions echoing through the Gush Dan area.

Zionist media confirmed that Iranian cluster missiles landed in several locations, including Holon, causing fires and damaging multiple vehicles.

A warehouse in the Mishmar HaShfa settlement was also destroyed, and debris from the missile salvo caused significant material damage.

Strikes cause widespread casualties and damage

The IRGC stated that the targets were successfully struck due to what it described as a collapse in Israel’s multi-layered air defense systems, allowing missiles to reach strategic locations.

The attack reportedly caused:

  • Power outages across parts of Tel Aviv
  • Disruptions to emergency and response operations
  • Initial estimates of more than 230 dead and wounded

Ramat Gan and surrounding areas hit

Zionist media reported that two settlers were killed in Ramat Gan, south of Tel Aviv, while cluster missiles struck 15 locations across the area, causing widespread destruction and panic.

Significant damage was reported at the Sedor train station, and a building in central Tel Aviv collapsed due to the missile impact. Several injuries were recorded from falling debris.

The latest wave follows the 60th wave of True Promise 4, which was launched to avenge the martyrdom of the head of the Basij Mostazafan Organization,  General Gholamreza Soleimani, following a US-zionist aggression.

The IRGC announced that the wave was conducted as a hybrid operation, targeting US bases across the region and in the occupied Palestinian territories. In addition to US bases, the wave targeted a zionist air logistics and supply center in Ashdod and the Rafael arms complex using Emad and Qadr missile systems.

Iraqi and Syria Resistance forces launch attacks

The Iraqi Islamic Resistance announced the execution of 47 operations using drones and missiles in their attacks.

These attacks spanned across the Gulf with a concentration targeting the US embassy in the Green Zone in Iraq.

This is the highest number of operations carried out by the Iraqi resistance since the start of the war.

The Syrian Resistance launched missiles towards the zionist entity. Jund al-Karrar, a newly announced Syrian Resistance front, began a new operation series in support of Iran and in response to the aggression, launching the new missile “Qudoos” at Shamir settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan. The strike was successful.

“Time for a Global Axis of Resistance”

by Tariq Marzbaan & Nora Hoppe in Al Mayadeen English

“The centuries-old racist-colonialist essence of Western imperialism – amplified over recent postmodern decades by the ruthless ambitions of the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance – has degenerated into total lawlessness and barbarism. It has become a blind and unfettered force of inconceivable savagery, forming the foundation of what we call the Axis of Barbarism”

Iran Has Captured American Soldiers

Iran’s top security official Ali Larijani said he had received reports that several American soldiers had been taken prisoner during the ongoing war, accusing Washington of attempting to conceal the incident.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, Larijani wrote:

“It has been reported to me that several American soldiers have been taken prisoner. But the Americans claim that they have been killed in action.”

He added:

“Despite their futile efforts, the truth is not something they can hide for too long.”

Larijani suggested that the United States may be attempting to obscure the circumstances of the alleged captures by reporting American troops as killed in action.

“They promote a misleading narrative claiming that five or six American soldiers have been killed,” he said, adding that the number of reported deaths could later be increased under different explanations.

The United States quickly rejected the claim.

A spokesperson for US Central Command (CENTCOM) told Al-Jazeera that the Iranian allegations about captured American soldiers were false.

The exchange comes as the conflict between Iran and the United States continues to intensify following the launch of joint US-Zionist airstrikes on Iran on February 28, triggering waves of retaliatory attacks across the region.

Iranian Leadership Response

Larijani also issued broader remarks about the war, saying the United States had failed to achieve its strategic objectives in launching the military campaign against Iran.

In an interview broadcast by Iranian television, he said Washington’s strategy had been based on the assumption that the conflict could be concluded quickly.

“The Americans wanted to end the war in a short period of time,” Larijani said, adding that Iran had prevented this outcome.

According to Larijani, one of the goals of the campaign had been to create internal instability in Iran and ultimately divide the country.

He said the United States and the zionist entity had also hoped that targeting Iran’s leadership would cause the political system to collapse.

Larijani argued that these efforts had failed, pointing to what he described as unity among the Iranian public during the conflict.

He warned that the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during the war would carry consequences and said Tehran would continue to respond.

Larijani also said Iran had maintained adequate domestic supplies of fuel and essential goods despite the conflict, adding that the government had worked to stabilize conditions across the country.

IRGC Military Operations

For its part, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its forces have carried out extensive military operations during the first week of the war.

IRGC spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naeini told reporters that Iranian forces had launched hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones as part of retaliatory operations.

According to the IRGC, approximately 600 missiles have been fired since the start of the war, including ballistic missiles and cruise missiles using both liquid and solid fuel systems.

Iranian forces also conducted around 2,600 drone attacks during the same period, Naeini said.

He added that the operations targeted more than 200 locations and facilities connected to US and Israeli forces.

Among the systems reportedly struck were advanced radar installations linked to the US-operated THAAD missile defense network deployed in the region.

Naeini said Iranian attacks had destroyed seven advanced radar systems and disrupted part of what he described as the “American security umbrella.”

The IRGC spokesperson said the scale of Iranian firepower during the first three days of the conflict was comparable to the level of operations seen during a previous 12-day war.

Ongoing Retaliation

Iranian officials say the country is prepared for a prolonged confrontation.

Naeini stated that Iran’s armed forces are ready to sustain a large-scale war for up to six months at the current operational tempo.

“There is no reason for concern,” he said, adding that Iran’s military remained fully prepared and capable.

He said the country’s missile and drone capabilities remained intact and that operations would continue against US and Israeli targets.

Separately, Iranian officials said missile strikes had been launched against Israeli infrastructure during the latest phases of the confrontation.

Iranian media reported that missiles fired during the latest wave of operations struck strategic targets, including the Haifa oil refinery.

Iran said the attack was carried out using Khaibar-type missiles as part of the ongoing operation known as “True Promise 4.”

Iranian officials said the strike came in response to earlier US-Israeli attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, including the Tehran oil refinery.

The exchanges underline the rapidly expanding scope of the war, which has drawn in multiple actors across the region and intensified fears of a prolonged regional conflict.
