Brent Burns is going to make $2 million this year with the #Avs, assuming he gets to 10 games played.

Minnesota's Bill Guerin wins the Jim Gregory NHL GM of the year award.

Former #Avs GM Chris MacFarland was one of the three finalists.

#Avs will bring back their top-six defensemen from last season after signing Brett Kulak, Brent Burns to new contracts.

Avalanche sign defensemen Brent Burns, Brett Kulak to new contracts

The first two moves for the Colorado Avalanche after clearing some salary cap space are familiar ones.

The Denver Post
Brett Kulak's five-year extension with #avs carries a $4.5M AAV.
Give #Avs' Trader Joe Sakic credit for not running it back. It was time to move Valeri Nichushkin: https://www.denverpost.com/2026/06/26/avalanche-sakic-nichushkin-trade/
Renck: Give Avs’ Trader Joe Sakic credit for not running it back. It was time to move Valeri Nichushkin.

The Avs could not just run it back. What happened in Vegas needed to stay in Vegas. Trader Joe is making the right moves.

The Denver Post
Jotted down some thoughts on the complicated #Avs tenure for Val Nichushkin and his former club moving forward …

#Avs had 17 of the top 20 guys from last year under contract on June 15 + an RFA + less than $3 mil in cap space.

They now have 15 of the top 20 + two young Fs + a glaring hole in the top 6 + a shade less than $11 mil in space. And Val Nichushkin is gone.

Avalanche trade Valeri Nichushkin to Columbus, continue offseason shakeup

Joe Sakic and the Colorado Avalanche continue to shake up the roster, and this is the biggest move yet.

The Denver Post
I've asked Chris MacFarland about this in the past/he kind of ducked it, but the #Avs have clearly moved into the phase that a few clubs are in, with Vegas most notable -- sell in the offseason to buy, either later in said offseason or at the deadline. Two summers in a row now.
