I'm not sure if this is a widely known Aussie music fact that I've somehow been clueless about all these years?

You know the song "As the days go by" by Daryl Braithwaite?

Do you know who the backing singer on that song is?

Because I must have heard it hundreds of times over the years and yet somehow I didn't realise before I read it just now.

It's John Farnham 🤯

I didn't believe it, but I just listened closely. It sounds like Jack.

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and sure enough, it's Farnzie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_the_Days_Go_By

How did I not know this?

Did you?

@debritz Hold up, hold up...

"Suzi Quatro, Pat Benatar and Tina Turner, who all had hits written by Nambour’s own Mike Chapman.

"His list of hits written with Nicky Chinn under the “Chinnichap” moniker include Quatro’s Can the Can, Devil Gate Drive and 48 Crash, Mud’s Tiger Feet and Lonely this Christmas, The Sweet’s The Ballroom Blitz and Blockbuster, Racey’s Some Girls, Toni Basil’s (Hey) Mickey (originally a Racey song called Kitty), Smokie’s Living Next Door to Alice, and Stumblin’ In, which Quatro recorded with Chris Norman.

"Chapman, who was educated at Churchie, also co-wrote Turner’s (Simply) The Best, Benatar’s Love is a Battlefield and Blondie’s Heart of Glass."

Too many musicals?

Some thoughts about theatre. Plus: the Queenslander who wrote glam rock’s biggest hits.

If you want a bit of a primer on Australian punk rock, this was a nice run down of 30 essential singles that a friend just sent me.

It was a wonderful reminder of how lucky I've been. I saw probably 90% of these bands and either played or hung around with a significant bunch of them.

The Bleak Squad - just stumbled across this #AusRock "supergroup". Released a couple of days ago. Certainly some musical heritage there: Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque) Mick Harvey (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, The Birthday Party), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Marty Brown (Art of Fighting).

There's some really gorgeous and haunting stuff going on here. Really appreciating a 2nd listen. Would be very interesting live, I expect.
