It’s a lot of fun that #auDA has started trawling through all .au domains to check eligibility (where by “a lot of fun” I mean “an enormous time sink and stress creator”).

Many long-standing businesses with domains that haven’t needed to be touched in 10+ years are suddenly finding their domains threatened with deletion because they’re old enough (20+ years) that they were registered by Melbourne IT/WebCentral with a registrant ID of 000000000 instead of the actual ABN/ACN.

Didn't think I'd be doing this again, but here we are.

#AuDA are pulling the same stunt with my radio club that they pulled with me 18 months ago, lodging a domain dispute and giving us saying the organisation is not eligible as at not-for-profit and giving us 14 days to prove otherwise.

This is despite:
1) Section 1.4 of their administration policy defining an NFP as an incorporated association.
2) Said club is an incorporated association.
3) Said club provided the incorporated association registration certificate when they applied for the domain.

Having resupplied the association certificate, I hope this is more straight forward than the last interaction I have had with AuDA.

Having said this, I wonder what the hell is going on at AuDA and if this is part of a data verification activity that this is a gross abuse of the dispute process.

A simple “hi, its been x years can we verify your details” would have been enough if that's all this is about.

Anyway, instead I am now going to find the complaints process to (try) and hold AuDA to account, because this behaviour just stinks.

@saera not sure if you still have any involvement over there, but any suggestions who I could best contact? :)

The Domain Saga

For those eagle-eyed users, you will notice that you are now visiting www.vk7ben.au and not vk7ben.id.au. This is the story about why. In 2007, I acquired my advanced license and callsign VK7BEN. A…

if I use Google to find solutions and fix IT problems myself I get much more done than emailing or ringing a group for support with their website as they always either don't understand me or have different priorities on what software they support than me #support #google #diy #auda - hence auDA support any bugs with #Salesforce authenticator and #Microsoft authenticator but not Google authenticator - with #Google #authenticator I have to edit the entry to make it findable - they obviously support enterprise over small business #2fa
I found via website that I can edit the name of the entry in #Google #authenticator so that it does not have userid but site id of #auda .au member portal so I can find it easier without memorisation or having to make notes #entry #2fa
the entry for auda .au member portal in Google authenticator is my username instead of the portal site URL so it is harder to find unless I remember it or make a note of it - badly setup Google authenticator on their end I believe #google #authenticator #auda
I used Google authenticator for auDA .au member portal rather than Salesforce authenticator and can now see portal #domains #auda

In 2023, #auDA undertook community consultation on proposed amendments to the .au Licensing Rules.

We made a submission, specifically commenting on the Public Interest Test for domain allocation.

We are disappointed that our recommendation to include malicious #misinformation as part of the Public Interest Test was not adopted and look forward to working with auDA to better shape #policy in an age of #generativeAI.
