An interview with the creators of ‘Literally No Place’, Daniel Felstead and Jenn Leung, is available here:

'“Our side quest was to try and offer a different perspective on #ai one that doesn't treat it as, like, some kind of saviour or looming apocalypse,” they explain. “We wanted to present AI as this, like, twisted reflection of our present moment, in all its unhinged, horrific, and glorious wonder.”

They cite Kate Crawford's #AtlasofAI as an influence. For a different (less zombie #materialist) take on AI and Crawford's book, see here:

@tb Thank you so much
looked up page 6 and yes wow!
As for the rabbit holes and the myriad of interests you shared, it feels familiar, I don't know how it's for you but for me these myriad interests and the diversity of contexts that they feed into seems to go in cycles and at times (meaningfully) intersecting each other.

So rich in references did look up most of the books and article, and skimmed quickly through some of them. there seems to be a lot of overlap in interests-- *If then* would be a nice to partner with: The Imagineers of War: The Untold Story of DARPA... but from a different angle (the overlap seems to be in part the time-period coldwar and surveillance technologies leading up to NSA kinda practices... along the development of the ARPANET omongst other stuff... anyway went a little of topic here 😂

The materialist focus is exactly the reason I gravitated towards (speculative) design and architectural theory and analysis lots of demystification going there, but then again with its own limitations and in agreement with you.

RE AI yes this (neo) colonial/capitalist logic of appropriation and exploitation seems to thrive in big tech. Although of topic again 🙄 #kateCrawford is beautifully pointing the current conditions that make AI possible in its current shape(s) (or at least a part) in https://anatomyof.ai and more elaborately in her book #atlasofai

Thanks again for you generosity really enjoying the exchange 😊
