As a former #Alaskan who lived there 16 years, I am dismayed that knowledgeable Republicans are not trying to contain the idiotic behavior happening in Washington DC regarding #Denali. Here is a good article with the Alaskan view. I would make one correction, the #Native people have been there for millennia, not centuries. Denali is the mountain’s name. #Alaska #NativeAmerican #NativePeople #Athabascan https://apnews.com/article/trump-alaska-denali-mckinley-name-39c6e735fc56f4046200259cfe9e9934
Many Alaskans continue to use Denali as name for Mount McKinley

President Donald Trump has changed the name of Alaska's Denali back to Mount McKinley. It's a nod to President William McKinley, who was from Ohio and who never set foot in Alaska. Many Alaskans say they'll never stop calling the mountain Denali. That name respects the Indigenous people who've lived in its shadows for thousands of years. Jeff King, a four-time winner of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, lives near the mountain. He says he doesn't know a single person who likes the idea of the new name. But Trump's move is drawing praise in Ohio, where a former congressman says "it was the appropriate thing to do.”

I loved #reading The Smell of Other People's Houses. It's a beautifully crafted #book that presents the transition from childhood to adulthood through the eyes of a group of teens in Fairbanks #Alaska. It looks at #community and belonging and uses sense of smell to build its world. The author sensitively portrays #AlaskanNative life through the #Athabascan and #Inupiat characters.
