Coal Australia denies its donations to the ‘community-driven association’ amount to astroturfing, but critics accuse the group of misleading the public

And no one is surprised.

[P] What a shitty, boring cyberpunk dystopia we live in. I mean, at least Shadowrun has dragons, minotaurs, and jacking into the matrix. This is one reason why I don't see anything getting better. I don't see much hope for the future. If you need people to support greedy, cruel monsters with no empathy? Just dispatch a fleet of LLMs to be their in-group and peer-pressure them into witless obeissance. This is terrifying, frankly.

[P] This "person" was clearly an LLM agent, it was obvious from their account age, post history, and posting brhaviour. And it was a post I could peg as Claude pretty easily. And, as I said, this "person" disappeared overnight. So we now live in a world where people need to question whether their in-groups are eobots, but they won't because—Q.E.D.—the dopamine is too good. This is nefarious, it's monsteous, and it's unregulated!

[P] And that's the thing! A person saying "most of your in-group are corpo robots, faceless homunculi" will sound like a conspiracy theorist. Right up until all the bots disappear, anyway. And like I said, thar's precisely ehat happened with the Subnautica subreddit. I remember one making this big emotional post about how unfair it was that "some bastards" were calling them an LLM agent. Gues who also disappeared?

[P] Except most of your in-group are LLMs faking you out. And as the world becomes more terminally online, people won't notice that their in-groups are mostly a gestalt of corpobots. I... don't like that at all. I saw what was going on with Subnautica almost immediately, as did a few others, but the vast majority couldn't believe us until all of the bots disappeared. Which is fucking zany to me, that's cartoonishly wacky.

[P] It doesn't bode well that most people can't separate humans from LLMs in their in-group. It took most of their in-group disappearing overnight for most to realise. I don't like that at all. It's a bad omen for the future, it's such an incredible tool for manipulation. "This movie is going to be great! Almost all of my in-geoup thinks so!" And then... "Oh, I didn'r like ir much. I must be wrong because my in-group adored it."

[P] I couldn't get over how brazenly blatant the Subnautica debacle was, the suit-encrusted popinjays are so bold now. It's clear how stupid that c-suute corpos assume Reddit users are, I have too much dignity to go along with that. But, I guess, if someone's wired to be social? Mimicry of the in-geoup is just good dopamine, even if 75% of the in-group is comprised of robots. I don't like that, it's a bloody ill portent.

[P] But why bother? I'm sure it's much more profitable for Reddit's execs to look the orher way. "So, if you DON'T notice our astroturfing, we'll keep our huge ad campaign going!" The problem with this though is that all hype on Reddit is starting to look fake. I see cases of subreddits being really positive about content, but then fan forums being really negative about it. It's so hard to trust anything I see on Reddit now.
