Love that so many women are represented at the #AstroAwards tonight.
Love that so many women are represented at the #AstroAwards tonight.
I was lucky enough to be in the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX for this presentation by Apollo Astronaut Charlie Duke last January.
Such an amazing guy, hilarious, and I learned a great deal about the Apollo 16 mission.
To be in the room with one of the few remaining humans who have walked on the Moon was incredible.
Charlie is such a - beg the pun - down-to-earth fellow, and incredibly engaging.

Made new friends too. I feel like I'm going to be back down here next year for the #AstroAwards again. It was such a wholesome, happy event and no matter where you were, you made friends.
Tim has grown such a wonderful community of space enthusiasts and everyone is just #TeamSpace. It was really cool to be among IT and space professionals, YouTube creators, and others and just be able to ✨relate✨ .
One of the biggest things - everyone is just themselves, and incredibly kind.
Also, meeting Dr. Shawna Pandya, the (soon to be) first female commercial astronaut, was pretty cool. I had to apologize because I ran into her in Toronto (she was on the same flights down, she's from Edmonton too), and I was so awkward. She said she was awkward too. 😆
What a weekend, my cup is so full. Next stop, a six hour drive to South Padre Island in the morning. I might give Jack Beyer of NASASpaceFlight a ride to Brownsville. He's texting me in the morning.
After dinner, Scott Manley (hullo!) came by and sat and chatted with us, from infosec, cybersecurity, and all kinds of things. I knew he was interested when he leaned in.
Albeit, at that point, I think we all had a (un)healthy amount of free wine and beer.
I introduced him to Mastodon but told him he'd have to find an American instance. 😆
No regrets, other than not getting a photo with him.
What a weekend. Finally meeting Tim Dodd after eight years of knowing each other virtually was just so great. Spending time with Tim filled my cup in of itself.
Xyla Foxlin and Andrew Adams are super great humans - I had dinner with them tonight, and really, we just shot the shit.
Joel Gomes (aka Integza) and I spent about half an hour outside the restaurant talking about being a YouTube creator, and about how genuine other creators like Cody's Lab and NileRed are too.
@gamergull He was asking if we had seen hs niece and nephew after his set.
Scott has to be one of the most genuine people I've met in this space. He's producing videos because he's passionate about the space and he uplifts others in laymans terms as he can.
I was so intimidated to say "hullo" to him after Tim's set.
After 8-ish years, I finally met Tim Dodd, the Everyday Astronaut after his incredible set at the IGNITION event.
I turned around, and he was upstairs. He said, "Hi, I'm Tim," his hand extended, to which I said, "Hey, I'm Chad, Chad Ohman." He lit up and pulled me in for a huge, tight hug.
Him and I virtually go back to 2018-ish. We spent nearly an hour chatting and I'm still beside myself.
Opted not to get a selfie tonight since he was just off a set and the light was low.
