My Life In the Cutout Bins: Va...
Deep Listening Day #67 — Van Morrison: Astral Weeks (1968). I am amazed that Van was 23 when he created this. I said to Mary, "you don't even need to actually comprehend the words to realize this is music made by an old soul." a different kind of soul music.
"And I will raise my hand up into the nighttime sky /
And count the stars that shine in your eye /
And just to dig it all and not to wonder, that's just fine /
And I'll be satisfied not to read in between the lines..."
Tonight's album before bed is Astral Weeks by Van Morrison. On the days when I don't think Remain In Light is the greatest album ever recorded, I usually think Astral Weeks is.
Listening to 'Sweet Thing' in Astral Weeks, the double bass by Richard Davis sounds so much like Danny Thompson. Any thoughts?

NOTE: Davis was one of those quiet legends who worked with tons of great people. While he is best known for working with Dolphy and Andrew Hill, Davis was the driving force behind #VanMorrison and his amazing #AstralWeeks. Just listen to him on #SweetThing. It will open your eyes.
