#Russia #Astrakhan photography project “Astrakhan in the past and today” by Vadim Mankov.
A still from the film My Friend Ivan Lapshin. The intersection of Trofimova and Pskovskaya streets, 1982 and 2019. ⠀
The photo perfectly illustrates one of the main problems of Putin’s Russia - inability to deliver on promises regarding increase of living standards. Recently I’ve written about housing disasters in today’s Russia - for example, a whole segment of a residential multi-family house has collapsed, with casualties.
People were still living there in spite of the fact that the house was officially registered as dangerous for living, but the local administration for decades failed to find or build replacement.
And since the administration is practically appointed by the Kremlin as council elections are a theatre, they don’t care. Kremlin doesn’t rate them by quality services delivered to the local population, but by compliance with today’s political goals.
