On Wednesday Papua New Guinea played its last ODI for the foreseeable future, a loss to Canada in the ICC World Cup Qualifier Playoffs. During the match Assad Vala became PNG's first and only batter to score 2000 ODI career runs.

Sad to see PNG demoted from their ODI status. Their form over the past couple of years made this inevitable although they do have a 50% win-loss record in 2023. Reduction in ICC funding will hurt.
