Over 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter urging Keir Starmer to stop the House of Lords from using "procedural tactics" to kill the #AssistedDyingBill.

The #AssistedDyingBill is at risk of being deliberately talked out in the Lords. Terminally ill people deserve a compassionate choice – and MPs’ votes should be respected. Petition: Act to ensure Bills backed by MPs & public can complete all stages in Parliament

We want the Government to do everything in its power to ensure that when bills are supported by MPs & the public, they have the time to complete all their stages in Parliament. We believe this is important to uphold democracy.

I see the Assisted Dying Bill looks almost certain not to become law.

This is a shame.

It is of course perfectly right and proper that the Lords should give the bill careful scrutiny and suggest improvements, but blocking it altogether against the wish of the elected Commons seems to me to be very bad form.

Disappointed to see the Lords looking like blocking the assisted dying bill altogether.

Don't think it's unconstitutional given that it's a private member's bill and we don't have a constitution anyway, but it still seems like bad form to over-ride the elected house like this.

They should absolutely suggest amendments, and I'd be amazed if they didn't for such a difficult and controversial bill, but not block it altogether.
