Here's what #asperitas #clouds look like from a distance. Someone southeast of Victoria probably has a photo from underneath them.

These are (obviously? presumably) associated with some gravity wave behaviour of wind interacting with the mountains south of us.

#Beautiful sculpted #clouds ... but also wow 😯 is it- a new cloud species #asperitas (2017) added to cloud atlas . like a wild ocean above #stratus #wierd #nature #earth #systems #change #photography #vertical #pano
So the sky just showed some model cloud varieties #clouds #weird #photography #asperitas with stairs and stripes and still no rain

En 2017, l'Atlas international des nuages avait officialisé l'#asperitas, particularité supplémentaire de #nuages. Verrons-nous bientôt l'arrivée du supercilium ou nuage en forme de sourcils? “Vorticity 6”

It’s time for another storm-chasing timelapse from photographer Mike Olbinski! “Vorticity 6” focuses on supercell thunderstorms and their tornadoes. There’s billowing turbulent convection, undulating asperitas, bulging mammatus, microbursts, and more. There’s nothing like timelapse to highlight the growth, rotation, and shear involved in these storms. (Video and image credit: M. Olbinski)

Asperitas Clouds Over New Zealand

What kind of clouds are these? Although their cause is presently unknown, such unusual atmospheric structures, as menacing as they might seem, do not appear to be harbingers of meteorological doom. Formally recognized as a distinct cloud type only last year, asperitas clouds can be stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, and are relatively unstudied.

Lacunosus | International Cloud Atlas

Cloud patches, sheets or layers, usually rather thin, marked by more or less regularly distributed round holes, many of them with fringed edges. Cloud elements and clear spaces are often arranged in a manner suggesting a net or a honeycomb.
