Answers are easy. Asking the right questions is hard. There are no neutral questions. Every question you ask has a motive. There is always an implied message and possibly an implied criticism behind it. This is unavoidable, but depending on how you ask a question will help determine whether it leads to productive or defensive answers. The more neutral you can make your questions, the less aggressive they will sound and the more effective they will be at getting to an answer. Asking the right question means understanding your own motives when asking. Are you doing this to gain information, explore options, and develop new ideas? If not, rethink how you are asking the question. And never ask a question just so you can answer it. This is passive aggressive, and just makes you look like a jerk. If you want to make a statement then, MAKE A STATEMENT. Not only is it more effective, it saves a lot of time.
