#askatp follow up, good utility to enable cut/copy/paste for files in the Finder like Windows by @sindresorhus https://sindresorhus.com/command-x
Even though I'm a long time Mac user, I've come around to using this approach sometimes (since you can do it with your keyboard and don't need something like Yoink to be a temporary holding place)
Also build into the larger utility by Sindre https://sindresorhus.com/supercharge
#AskATP When (if?) you collaborate on a Markdown document, how do you do it? Are there any 'native' collaborative Markdown editors? If not, or in preference, would you recommend Google Docs (with its rudimentary Markdown import & export), or a Git repo, or something else?
I believe your show notes are in Google Docs? But as native Google Docs, not a proxy for Markdown or some other file format?
@atpfm #askatp Do you have any thoughts about how recent CS grads should level up their programming skills? I'm actually interested in this but am wondering how to improve in the age of AI coding tools.
Fixing syntax errors, reading documentation, digging through log files. console.logging everything.
I feel like struggling with things helps me improve, but at the same time it feels like a waste of time spending a week doing something manually when Claude Code can do it in a day.
@atpfm
If you create shortcuts, how do you debug them? Is there a debugger somewhere that can be used, or do you use the equivalent of printf() periodically?
I revisited the Sam Altman and Jony Ive video merging IO & Open AI. Jony is crazy excited, but I wonder if he’s torn between excitement for newness and caution due to the handling of IP in developing Open AI models.
Apple’s aversion to data “stealing” , limits data acquisition, resulting in mediocre AI.
How can Jony Ive, who now regrets the negative impact of smartphones, design for Open AI with such joy? I’m sure SJ would have been torn by this duality.
Thoughts?
Do you see Apple ever dropping support for Fast User Switching on macos, as they did from the start w/ iOS? What would you do if they did (assuming you use FUS at all)?
I worry. FUS is integral to my usage on macos, mainly for separating work and experimentation. Unfortunately, in the "iOS" era, I've found that support for FUS has waxed and waned, with a definite overall trend towards waning. My macos experience would prolly be better if I didn't use FUS but I persevere.
Do you think apple should let users have an easier way of installing their own apps on ios in the age of LLMs? (Maybe finally sideloading).
It's now so easy to make apps that are tailor suited for you and not good for the appstore, that android has an advantage for this. Recently I forked and started using an android reader app that has features only I would want, and one big reason it's on android is cuz sideloading is trivial.
