One of my current reads would be good for someone who is interested in the 1972 Canada/USSR hockey series. The plot doesn't deal directly with the hockey, but it's mentioned frequently.

John McFetridge's A Little More Free, the 2nd of the Eddie Dougherty Mystery series, is set in Montréal in 1972.

Interesting that the action is set against Canadian historical events and recognizable locations.
